Des Moines NYE Party at Americana: The Roaring 40s. $35 in advance, open bar & DJ

Hey Friends,

We’re like to wear red polka dots, sailor suits, bow ties, red lipstick and curled hair like the rest of the world. So we’ve devoted an entire New Year’s Eve party to this idea. We’re calling it the “Roaring 40s,” (not to be confused with the “Pouring 40 oz’s,” which was Snoop’s idea), and it plans to be pretty good. So dress up in 1940s garb if you want, or not, and we’ll throw a party to ring in the new year.

No other Des Moines New Year’s Eve Party will have a 1940′s theme. We’re pretty sure of that.

So here are the details:

• New Year’s Eve.
• $35 in advance ($40 at the door… Call 515-283-1312 to reserve your spot)
• Open Bar from 9:30pm-1am. Party ’til 2. That means pretty much every wine and beer and liquor except top shelf stuff.
• DJ 2-4-8 aka Mike Utley on the turntables/consoles.
• Dancing, but not too much dancing like this:

Don your winter whites (or Santa costumes), and join us for an evening at Americana to pay tribute to the classic 1954 legacy film; White Christmas! THIS SATURDAY from 10:00pm-2:00am

With your $10 entry at the door, we will be raising money for local charities benefitting children in Iowa; including, Variety – The Children’s Charity. Mistletoe and sweet celebrity elves will be offering surprise opportunities for you to share your generousity – by giving a little (every kiss counts!) – we will be able to impact many!

DJ Eight Ten will spin classic vinyl, and you provide the dancing style. Pour. Toast. Dance. Mistletoe. Repeat.

Winter 2012 Is Full of Many Favorite Returning Acts at Hoyt Sherman Place
Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines is preparing for a busy winter season of events. They continue to offer something for everyone! Check out their winter schedule below.

November 25 – Lorie Line & Her Fab Five, The 2012 Holiday Extravaganza… Immanuel will feature glorious Christmas music, all centered around Lorie’s concert grand piano. She will be bringing her Fab Five, which will feature new “stars” on the stage this year. Plan to bring and ring your bells as they will once again be part of this brand new and exciting holiday show!

November 28 – Dowling Catholic High School Christmas Concert… The concert will include sacred and secular Christmas music performed by the Jazz Choir, Mixed Chorus, Chamber Choir, and A Cappella Choir. A special portion of the concert will include a selection that features the senior members of the choral program. The choral division of the Dowling Performing Arts Department consists of students in grades 9-12. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.

December 1 – Nada Silent Night X
The Nadas invite you to a night of festive merriment and holiday cheer, benefiting the U.S. Marine Corps Toys For Tots. For the past nine years, The Nadas have hosted an annual holiday concert to collect toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys For Tots of Central Iowa. In addition to the toy drive, a silent auction will also be held to raise money for a local charity.

December 2 – Jim McDonough, Holiday Grande 2012
Celebrate the holiday season in style by attending “Holiday Grande 2012,” an elegant, all-new stage production featuring Jim McDonough, joined by his 14-piece professional orchestra and a cast of sensational singers and dancers performing your favorite Christmas music and other all-time favorites. This dazzling event is a grand combination of beautiful music, spectacular sets and costumes, and the true spirit of the season. Proceeds benefit Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities.

December 6, 7, 8, 9 – Ballet Des Moines Presents The Nutcracker

The family classic you loved as a child with the professional ballet you appreciate as an adult. Hoyt Sherman and his family lived in their home, now adjacent to the theater, during the time of the Nutcracker’s premier. Ballet Des Moines’ Nutcracker is set to reflect Sherman’s era and his home. You’ll feel as if you stepped back in time as you and your family enjoy this holiday classic steeped in the beauty of the Victorian era.

December 14 & 15 – Tonic Sol-fa… Although they are simply four voices and a tambourine, Tonic Sol-fa has spent considerable time on the road carving their niche as the nation’s top vocal group. In the midst of touring, this quartet has been named one of the top five “must see” groups in America and has been awarded numerous original song and album awards in pop, gospel and holiday genres. Celebrate the holiday season at this popular show. Greg, Mark, Jared, and Shaun have arranged a fantastic a cappella show, fun for any age!

Away in the Basement

December 19, 20, 21 – Away in the Basement, A Church Basement Ladies Christmas … Audiences fell in love with Church Basement Ladies and A Second Helping: A Church Basement Ladies Sequel, and they became two of Hoyt Sherman Place’s most successful shows. This time, spend the holidays with us for a third helping! And out of the basement shall come a Christmas program of good tidings, great humor and joy! The Church Basement Ladies are back for the holidays to share their hilarious antics and stories in a brand new musical comedy that once again reveals their down-to-earth style and humor audiences have come to love.

December 22 – Miracle On 34^th Street The Musical… Rediscover the magic of

Miracle on 34th Street

believing that wishes can come true and miracles still happen in Meredith Willson’s musical production of one of the best loved of all holiday classic tales, Miracle On 34th Street… This heartwarming story by Valentine Davies, originally written for the 1940s movie of the same name, is brilliantly brought to life in a fully staged musical production. Featuring an imaginative set, stylish costumes of the period, superb choreography and the wonderful sound of Meredith Willson’s fabulous lyrics and score, including “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” and “May The Good Lord Bless & Keep You,” this holiday family plum of a show is sure to leave every audience believing in love and miracles again.
